HER BIO

City Councilwoman

Herron, the first and only woman elected to the Maryville City Council in 2020, is running for re-election to build on her record as a voice for working people, homeowners, and locally owned businesses. Known for putting citizens first and refusing to rubber-stamp decisions, she is committed to representing the community—not herself, special interests, or political agendas.

Herron understands that this is a nonpartisan role focused on serving the people, not a political party, and she remains independent of developer influence, which is why her campaign signs aren’t displayed on their properties.

HER RECORD

She opposed the Holiday Inn project when downtown business owners weren’t given a voice in the process and has stood alone in challenging large developments that compromised neighborhood safety.

She was the only council member to vote against the property tax rate, following new assessments, because it fell short of what citizens deserve and can afford.

As a working mom with close ties to her retired parents in Blount County, Herron understands how City Council decisions impact residents’ lives and what true affordability means.

She is honored to support the community’s commitment to strong public schools and remains dedicated to advocating for local businesses, amplifying citizens’ voices, and protecting Maryville residents.

Working Mom

After graduating from East Tennessee State University, Sarah and her family chose to make Maryville their home nearly 24 years ago. Her true passion has always been contributing to meaningful community and regional impact.

Among her achievements, Sarah played a pivotal role in securing crucial funding for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park during the pandemic, ensuring the continuation of vital projects and programs.

Her entry into the nonprofit sector began with the launch of the Alliance for Better Nonprofits (ABN), where she was instrumental in establishing a resource and training hub serving 25 counties.

While Sarah has enjoyed a fulfilling career, her favorite role has been as a mom to her two sons.

Andy, an Eagle Scout, is a freshman at Middle Tennessee State University, majoring in Construction Management with a concentration in Residential Building and Land Development. Adam, a junior at Clayton Bradley Academy, is currently working toward his Eagle rank.

Through her experiences as both a proud, dedicated mother and a public servant, Sarah is committed to ensuring Maryville remains a place we can all continue to call home.

Her priorities on the City Council reflect her deep understanding of the needs of families and residents, and she continues to strive for policies that promote safety and affordability.
